Ingredients
To be roasted for special masala
1 tbsp chana dal
2 tbsp coriander seeds
1 tsp methi seeds
1 tsp urad dal
2 dry red chilly
1/4 tsp hing
1 tsp oil
1/2 tsp pepper
1/4 cup grated coconut
Other ingredients
1/4 cup tuar dal
1/4 cup mung dal
1/2 cup rice
2 tbsp oil
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
7-8 curry leaves
lemon size tamarind soaked in water
2-3 oz of red pumpkin, white pumpkin, green Thai brinjal, potato, carrot, peas and flat beans(papdi)
Method:
1.Roast the masala ingredients in 1 tsp oil. Cool and grind to a paste and then again grind it with the coconut.
2.Now about 2 tbsp oil in a pressure cooker and season it with mustard seeds, curry leaves.
3. Then add all the vegetables and fry them properly.
4.Now add tamarind water and the masala and fry till the raw smell disappears.
5.Now add the soaked rice and the 2 dals and salt. Mix properly and then add 5 cups of water.
6.Pressure cook till 1 whistle and simmer for about 5 minutes.
7.When the pressure is cooled, mash the rice and the vegetables and serve with ghee and vattal( papad etc).
